Who is eligible to apply for a NNABA Foundation Scholarship?
Applicant must be
- Indigenous (including Native American, Alaska Native, Native Hawaiian, or Pacific Islander);
- An active member of NNABA, a regional American Indian Bar Association, or the National Native American Law Students Association;
- Be a graduate of or a current third year law student attending an ABA accredited law school in the U.S.; and
- Intend to take a state bar examination in July 2024 or February 2025.
If I’m thinking about law school but haven’t applied or enrolled, can I still apply for a scholarship?
No, you must currently be enrolled in law school, or have graduated to be eligible for a scholarship.
What are the scholarship criteria?
The Selection Committee will consider academic performance, honors and awards, community service and leadership, and financial need.
What do I need to submit?
In addition to your application, please submit an official or unofficial copy of your most recent law school transcript, a 300-word personal statement, and your current resume. Further details are available on this page.
What if I exceed the word limit for the personal statement?
We believe writing concisely is a skill. Please do not allow your personal statement to exceed 300 words.
Where should I send my application materials and letters of recommendation?
The application form with the personal statement is submitted electronically. Please email your resume and transcript to [email protected]. Materials that are not submitted electronically and via email as instructed will not be accepted.

When is the deadline to apply?
The deadline to apply for the 2024 Scholarship is March 15, 2024. This scholarship supports applicants taking the July 2024 or February 2025 exam.
If I took the July bar exam but did not pass, am I eligible to apply for the Bar Review scholarship again?
Yes. So long as you meet the eligibility criteria, you can apply for the Bar Review scholarship even if you have previously taken the exam.
What are the amounts that NNABA Foundation grants in this scholarship program?
Each year, the Foundation decides on the number of scholarships to grant and the scholarship size based on organization resources. Scholarships awarded will be at least $1,000.
